 Client:   Big Burns Supper Festival

 Client Overview:

Big Burns Supper is a Dumfries based celebration of Burns Night and Scots poet Rabbie Burns. Big Burns Supper showcases plenty of Scottish and international talent in a festival style tribute to arts, culture, and entertainment- all things Rabbie Burns himself would have approved of.

Project Overview: Sleeping Giants was asked to increase participation in Big Burns Supper opportunities and improve access to the arts for those living in North-West Dumfries. The aim is to deliver a six week outreach programme including school workshop support, partnership/community group development, delivery of family lantern making workshops, and pop up performances in North-West Dumfries.

  • Target new participants to the festival experience: redress their non-participation in the festival, and support audience development longer term

  • Create an identity for the ‘Festival within the festival’, and work to gain a stronger understanding of what the NW Dumfries community wants longer term for future development

  • Raise visibility of the entire festival and create a longer lasting relationship with this community – supporting the ambition that the arts comes to communities that need it the most

  • Ensure that people who have little to no experience of the arts get the opportunity to experience it

  • Provide support and development opportunities for groups/community members who engage in BBS 2015 and establish ongoing opportunities to ensure further development and legacy of BBS in this area

Our month long Big Burns Supper outreach programme was incredible…

  • Free pop up performances by top acts in local community centres/schools/prison/fast-food outlets

  • Oversubscribed lantern workshops and phenomenal community participation in our Burns Night lantern parade

  • Sold out shows and countless ‘Spiegeled’ individuals

  • DG2: Thank you for your support and enthusiasm- you have been incredible!
